Spring Ski-quinox!

Winter returned (again) yesterday with **another 2” of snow**, and yet the Vernal Equinox is upon us! 178” of snow is our season total (so far), and while spring officially begins at 10:46am today, winter continues at the Sun Mountain, with snow showers in the forecast all the way through Monday! There are still many days of skiing &amp; riding left in our season, so make sure to buy your 26/27 Pass for next season, and you can slide all the rest of this season for free!

32 trails are in bloom for you to feel a little spring in your step, with 4 lifts scheduled to shoot us up the mountain. Groomers planted corduroy overnight on 28 trails, making good use of yesterday’s freshies, and they have been doing a remarkable job at making us happy as jaybirds recently! There is still great skiing to be had, as evidenced by our surprise “East Coast Powder day” yesterday, but even if you know Bromley well, it’s best to go slow at first, in case you come across a spring obstacle. Soft “corn snow” is starting to make a regular appearance at the Sun Mountain as it warms, so expect firmer conditions early that relax as the day progresses. Our terrain parks still have us jumping for joy on Plaza and Lower Thruway, so grab a buddy and snag some park laps!

The Big Bromley Sun will be sending us into spring today, though the weather won’t be quite so springy yet, with temps only into the 30s at the summit by midday. Snow showers are in the forecast, and while they may become a little wetter at times this afternoon and evening, they are expected to continue throughout the weekend. Solar storms that encourage the appearance of the Northern Lights are also possible for the next several days, so keep your eyes on NOAA’s Space Weather in case they return for a repeat showing.

Who’s up for a sunset run? Join the Bromley Ski Patrol Saturday night for Sunsetting with Ski Patrol, supporting the Jim Boyle Ski Patrol Educational Fund, which helps offset ski patrol training and educational expenses. Take a ride to the summit after lifts close to the public, and enjoy light fare and a late afternoon run with Ski Patrol, aiding the fund that helps send 7 of our Young Adult Patrollers to the Eastern Division Patrol Seminar Educational Conference. The Vernal Equinox, the day when the sun rises due East and sets due West, has been celebrated for centuries, possibly even here on the Sun Mountain. Around the world, though, several ancient sites align with the sun at this time, including the Sphinx and pyramids of Giza, and the ruins of Chichen Itza, Mexico. At this ancient Mayan site, crowds will gather today as the afternoon sun creates snake-like shadows that will descend the pyramid until they merge with a large, serpent head sculpture at the base of the Pyramid of Kukulkan. And while today’s Equinox marks an important turning point in the seasons, we know that the universe loves the Sun Mountain dearly, and looks to keep winter around as long as we want it :).
